  • ote : How to calculate and choose the ideal cruising speed for you?
  • Example cycle a course of the same length and elevation as the course you want to cycle during the Gran Fondo events. At the end of this course, if your odometer indicates 30 km/h this means that you can opt in favor of a 30 km/h cruising speed during the event.
  • Note : It is preferable to opt for a cruising speed in which you will be able to keep up the pace in order to be able to do your best during the timed sections displayed on courses.

What would be the average speed during the proposed courses?

One of the reasons why this kind of event generates such interests is the average speed to which circuits are cycled does not really have an impact to determine the winners.

Some participants will go for the shortest general time possible, without to much stop to recover between the timed courses whereas others maybe more experienced will give the maximum in the timed courses to obtain a best time. However, they will take time between these tests to eat well at the supply areas which are set up by organizers. They will take advantage of it to meet their friends between the timed sections.

This is why that kind of event gathers so many cyclists in Europe.

For the people who like to participate to this kind of event, but also likes to cover the suggested course alone and far from the fray. We respect the point of view of these people but we remain confident that the popularity for these mass events and mass departures are sought for the atmosphere and the energy that these events give and we remain convince that these are the vital elements for the success of this kind of event.

As the organizer in charge of the event, we have the responsibility to ensure the respect of citizens who are willing to change their daily habits in order to allow us to offers nice courses. It is also one of the reasons why we must respect the planned limited time.

The ones who have changed their daily habits to allow us to achieve this event.

Yes. We accept the possibility to cycle a shorter circuit than anticipated for the participants who want that. On the other hand, the cumulative and total times of the cycled course cannot be calculated, no refund will be made in the case where a participant registered to a longer course decide to cycle a shorter course.

Can I cycle a longer circuit than planned?

No, you cannot cycle a longer circuit than the one you are registered. If such is the case, you could not receive your time and your rank.

All the participants on a pre-established course wear colors and numbers identifying the participant to a given course. The cost associates to a longer circuit is not only the cost of supplies along courses, but a lot of more in logistics and the preparation of such an event.

A lot of investments in services and security are planned during such an event. You must think about the presence of a police escort, emergency care, patrollers, communication, synchronization, protocol sand so on.

What kind of meteorological conditions I should expect at this time of the year in this region?

We suggest you visit your favorite meteorological site to foresee the temperature expected in the visited region during Gran Fondo Éco events.

I never cycle with leading riders?

In this case we suggest you take the Piccolo or Fun course. Cycling with leading riders will give you a faster cruising speed than the one you usually cycle when you are alone, this allows you to save about 30% of energy.

On the other hand, cycling with leading riders requires some experiences in order to stay near the other cyclists and especially to stay stable in the saddle without rough movements which could be precarious for the safety of the leading group.
